Find Help, Find Hope…

NAMI Snohomish County Participates in Global Initiative – #GivingTuesday – for First Time

The National Alliance on Mental Illness Snohomish County (NAMI Snohomish) will participate for the first time in the worldwide fundraising movement known as #GivingTuesday.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communties and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27 and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to give back.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI is an association of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and volunteers who work in the community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. The Snohomish affiliate helps mentally ill county residents and their families through support groups, classes, programs and advocacy efforts.

“As a non-profit, every dollar donated is precious and essential to our mission,” Keith Binkley, NAMI Snohomish president, siad. “Our mission around mental health is simple but profound: raise awareness, educate and provide resources to the community that forever change lives.”

NAMI Snohomish has set a goal of $1,500 – this will allow us to reach up to 50 people in our 12 week Family to Family course, providing them with resources, a support group and knowledge to improve their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

Founded in 2012, #GivingTuesday inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in.  Over $300 million has been raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.
